Starz is developing "The Continental", a TV spinoff of the "John Wick" films focused on the hotel that serves as a safehouse for assassins. Key to the reboots is having the original producers involved, which The Continental has with Lionsgate and the John Wick's original producing team. Reeves, Starz execs said, is expected to make an appearance in the potential series but will not star as the project exists side by side with the feature universe.
"You can expect to see [Reeves] at some point in the series", said Starz Managing Director Carmi D. Zlotnik at the channel's Television Critics Association presentation.
There is no estimated premiere date for the series at this time, but the third John Wick movie is expected to be released in 2019.
Collins expands the universe in the series by focusing on the Continental Hotel and those who find refuge under its roof. U.S. network Starz made the announcement at the Television Critics' Association's winter press tour, adding that it and Lionsgate were working on a series called The Continental, based on the inner workings of the worldwide hotel chain that caters to assassins.
Chris Collins of "Sons of Anarchy" is writing the series and will be the showrunner should it be picked up.
"This series is truly unlike anything else on TV", Starz president and CEO Chris Albrecht says. Chad Stahelski, the director of all three John Wick films, will direct the pilot episode.
It may not be clear yet when - or how - Reeves will figure into the TV show, but in the meantime he will serve as a producer, along with John Wick co-director David Leitch.
