Like Pokémon Go, Wizards Unite will use augmented reality technology to superimpose the Harry Potter universe onto the real world, placing magical artefacts and creatures around players' neighbourhoods. Players will also be able to join one of the four Hogwarts houses and choose their own pet. You build your skills by solving mysteries and going on adventures.
Playing the game, it'll be possible to go on quests, improve skills, unlock new locations and upgrade your avatar. The studio's announcement promises both major story arcs and smaller, relationship-oriented quests, but specifics will have to wait for another day. These choices will allow Harry Potter fans to create the legacy of the witch or wizard they want to become. Founded in 2010 by former MySpace co-founders Chris DeWolfe, Aber Whitcomb, and former 20th Century Fox executive Josh Yguado, Jam City is the creator of popular and top grossing games including Cookie Jam, Panda Pop, Family Guy: Another Freakin' Mobile Game, and Marvel Avengers Academy among other titles. The Harry Potter books have sold more than 450 million copies worldwide and the films have grossed more than $7.7 billion to date.
The event is part of the main benefit that Jam City will receive in taking the Harry Potter license.
