A view of Karti Chidambaram's property where the Enforcement Directorate conducted raids, in New Delhi on Jan 13, 2018.
The ED, past year had carried out similar raids at the house of a relative of Karti Chidambaram in the same case.
Speaking about the raid at Delhi's Jor Bagh, Chidambaram said, "In the comedy of errors they (ED) came to search the premises in Delhi's Jor Bagh and offices and told me they believed that Karti Chidambaram was the occupant of the house I told them otherwise".
"The ED has no jurisdiction to investigate under PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act)", he added. No incriminating document was recovered or seized from Chennai residence of Karti Chidambaram by ED. The CBI FIR also names INX Media directors, Peter and Indrani Mukerjea - both accused in the Sheena Bora murder case.
The agency had on Thursday issued fresh summons to Karti after he skipped his appearance before it in connection with the money laundering probe.
"They (ED officials) searched & found nothing but since they had to justify themselves they took papers of a statement made by govt in the Parliament, a few years back".
The Congress, too, was critical of the action against its senior leader and termed the ED raids "a malicious vendetta" by PM Narendra Modi and his government against senior Congress leaders.
The case relates to the approvals the Foreign Investment Promotion Board granted for the Aircel-Maxis deal in 2006 when P Chidambaram was the finance minister.
It also found that the company promoted by Karti and P Chidambaram's nephew allegedly received two lakh dollars from Maxis Group in the guise of software consultancy.
