It certainly won't reach Batman vs. Superman's number of $873 million and foreign take is far less than domestic earnings - but it's still safe to say China may have saved Justice League from a big embarrassment. Now thanks to cinematographer Fabian Wagner, we know that scenes of Cavill in a black Superman suit were filmed and later cut from the movie.
In an interview with Inverse, Wagner revealed that the footage was amongst several scenes filmed by original director Zack Snyder that were ultimately cut. "There are a few scenes that I was very much looking forward to seeing which unfortunately got cut".
Following his death at the hands of Doomsday, the Man of Steel returned to life in 1993's Superman: The Man of Steel #25, donning this black costume with a silver "S". One or few such scene seems to be that of Superman dressed in black suit.
As debate raged on and conflicting reports of which scenes had been deleted continued to surface, it sounded like this subject had been put to bed when one of the visual effects artists to have worked on the movie stated that it was never there to begin with. "It's a cool looking costume", he said. Fans were hence certain at the time that they would get to see Superman in a black suit.
But when the movie hit theaters with a relatively lean two-hour runtime, the black suit was nowhere to be found. Instead-spoiler alert-Superman's revival saw the brief rise of a shirtless Man of Steel. "Sadly, we didn't see that either in the final cut". Zack Snyder had partially and loosely adapted the story-line in his superhero team-up film Justice League.
