The PlayStation 4 has hit another major sales milestone, with Sony confirming its flagship console has sold through more than 70.6 million units worldwide as of December 3. At just over 100 million units, the Wii is Nintendo's best-selling console of all time.
The PlayStation 4 has now sold an impressive 70m units worldwide.
That's still a tad shy of the approximately 17.5 million annual sales the PlayStation 4 has averaged in its first four years on the market, but most consoles sell fewer units in their first year than subsequent ones thanks to factors like limited supplies, higher prices, and smaller software libraries. In total, over 12.2 million copies of PSVR games have been sold in both storefronts and digital marketplaces. "I can not thank our fans and partners enough. We will continue to work closely with partners to maintain this momentum and remain steadfast in making PS4 the best place to play".
Of course, things can change in a heartbeat next year as Sony looks to start 2018 swinging.
Sony launched the PS4 in November 2013 and quickly established a firm lead over its leading competitor, the Xbox One. PS VR, which launched a year ago, continues to sell well, especially following great deals over Black Friday.
Sony then went on to highlight some of its late 2017 and early 2018 titles that'll continue the momentum of the current PS4 sales. In January, highly-anticipated titles such as Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hacker's Memory, Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, Lost Sphear, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Monster Hunter: World and Dissidia: Final Fantasy NT are all due out.
