With a press release and special sections featured on its digital storefronts this morning, Apple revealed the most popular apps, games, and media releases of 2017. First of all, the introduction of AR (augmented reality) apps and games picked up pace this year, second they point out is the rise of real-time competitive gaming, third is the growing popularity of lifestyle apps (like Zomato or Big Basket), and finally increase in popularity of apps enabling photo and video editing.
As in previous years, the company's App Store editors have selected the best apps and games of the year for every software platform - iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS.
R. Rahman from "OK Jaanu" was the most popular song, while "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" emerged as the most popular album.
On the iPhone front Calm won app of the year. Both the games are not freemium titles.
Super Mario Run tops the most downloaded games chart, followed by 8 Ball Pool, Snake VS Block, Ballz, Word Cookies and Subway Surfers. Next was Snapchat, which was the top app past year.
Apple's list of top free apps for the iPhone and iPad include titles such as YouTube, Netflix, Facebook, and Google Chrome. If you wanted to stock up on apps and games, this is a good place to start.
The app store will be pre-installed on Huawei devices and will include a variety of content.
According to Apple, the top song of the year is The Shape of You by Ed Sheeran, while Drake's More Life is the top album.
"Apple Music Up Next 2017 artists Khalid, Daniel Caesar and 6LACK all earned GRAMMY nominations as part of their success this year", the iPhone maker said. Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead were the top TV shows of the year while NPR's Fresh Air was the most downloaded podcast.
Moana was the top movie of the year, followed by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Wonder Woman, Apple said.
