China ranks second only to the United States in terms of internet development and innovation, but among the worst on cybersecurity and industry infrastructure, according to a survey of 38 countries by a Beijing-backed think tank. Cyber sovereignty outlines that states will have to manage their own internet without any external interference.
Luigi Gambardella, President of ChinaEU, the business-led International Association aimed at intensifying business cooperation and mutual investments in Internet, Telecom and Hitech between China and Europe, said the remarks showed Xi's commitment.
The conference, which is overseen by the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) invited foreign executives, Apple Inc's CEO Tim Cook and Google Inc chief Sundar Pichai as well as a Facebook Inc executive.
"Xi recognizes that there are many challenges ahead of us such as security problem and privacy protection".
China's defense for its new policies would influence the global internet governance. "Xi's words show that China is very keen to work with other countries to discuss the challenge and to cooperate".
"Much has been said of the potential downsides of AI, but I don't worry about machines thinking like humans". "I think we are all in this together to combat challenge in cyberspace and figure out innovative solutions".
According to the organizing committee, over 1,500 guests from more than 80 countries and regions, including government officials, heads of global organizations, leading figures of internet companies, experts and scholars, attended the conference in the east China town of Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province.
