In remarks to the press on the sidelines of the meetings, Germany's acting foreign minister, Sigmar Gabriel, said any unilateral United States recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital would inflame Middle East tensions.
The European Union's top diplomat on Tuesday warned against "any action that would undermine" peace negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians, saying the status of Jerusalem should be decided in talks between the two.
"A way must be found through negotiations to resolve the status of Jerusalem as the future capital of both states", Mogherini said, according to the news agency, stressing the EU's support for unlocking meaningful peace talks.

On Monday, during a phone conversation with Jordan's Foreign Minister Safadi on the possible United States announcement on the status of Jerusalem, Mogherini declared: "Since early this year, the European Union was clear in its expectation that there can be reflection on the consequences that any decision or unilateral action affecting Jerusalem's status could have".
Trump reversed decades of US policy by recognising Jerusalem as the Israeli capital and saying Washington would begin the process of moving its embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv.
The kingdom also reiterated its unwavering position on Jerusalem and its firm and lasting support for the Palestinian people in asserting their legitimate rights and establishing an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, it said. Moving the embassy was one of his major pronouncements during Trump's presidential campaign.
While Israel regards Jerusalem as its capital, the worldwide community insists that the status of the city should be determined in the peace talks with the Palestinians.
