The firing of Brown is only the beginning of firings as more personnel in the front office are expected to be let go. Brown was named the team's top executive in 2016 by the Haslams.
ESPN reported on Thursday that the team made a decision to fire executive vice president Sashi Brown, who was the head of the Browns' personnel department, after almost full two seasons on the job.
Winless with four weeks left in another dismal season, the Cleveland Browns fired Brown on Thursday, jettisoning their top football executive who was unable to improve the franchise enough to satisfy owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam. Cleveland now sits at 0-12 entering Week 14 of the season. "Today we informed Sashi that we were going in a new direction".
ESPN was first to report Brown's dismissal. We need to ensure that we maximize our opportunity for success; with our picks, free agency and building our roster.
The Browns have stockpiled picks for future drafts, with six additional picks in April's draft. However, per Adam Schefter and reading into Haslam's quote, "We have begun the process of having productive conversation regarding leadership of our football operation and will provide further updates when appropriate", the Browns are expected to fire more personal throughout the day.
Brown orchestrated a blockbuster trade with Philadelphia for the No. 2 pick in the 2016 National Football League draft that allowed the Eagles to select quarterback Carson Wentz. A year later, the Texans selected Watson at No. 12, after the Browns yet again traded down in Round 1.
