Talking to The Hollywood Reporter's podcast, Awards Chatter, the actress confessed that the couple were having troubles in their relationship around the time they got married. And though they announced their split less than two years later, Jolie said she does not regret doing one last film with Pitt. Jolie, who did the podcast to promote her film, First They Killed My Father, said that she was able to withstand the media scrutiny over her initial relationship with Pitt because of her worldwide work with refugees in several countries, including Cambodia, where she adopted her first son, Maddox.
"We had met working together and we worked together well", she explains, referring to meeting on the set of 2005's Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
In her comments, Jolie indicated that she thought she and Pitt might have been able to improve their overall relationship after working together again. "I wanted us to do some serious work together". Perhaps soon we learn that Vivian told his parents that consider themselves transgender. So I thought that it could be a good way for us to communicate. "But there was a heaviness probably during that situation that carried on and it wasn't because of the film". "I did have my mastectomy, and I did then have an ovarian cancer scare and have that surgery as well, and other things of course that happened in life that you go through". "I'm not sure", the actress said. "Over the span of that decade, I did lose my mother".
"I'm glad we did [By the Sea] because we did explore something together", Jolie said. Vanessa (Jolie) is withdrawn, she seems to grieve her being barren.
Adding, "It was something that we were dealing".
For those of you who don't know, By The Sea was written and directed by Jolie and dealt with a couple 14 years into their marriage who are growing apart due to communication problems, intimacy issues, and fertility struggles.
