Joe Root has welcomed Australia's plan to "target" him and says England will not be singling any specific players out.
"Last time that caught us out, but I think we are a bit wiser this time". "We expect it to be hostile".
Root said he expected a "hostile. very loud and rowdy atmosphere" in Brisbane, but said England were working hard to be "absolutely ready" for the first game. We have got our heads round what to expect.
"I've heard a lot of chat about targeting me in particular but I know from our point of view we'll be targeting every single one of them", Root said ahead of England's Ashes warm-up game against a Cricket Australia XI in Townsville.
"Fear is not the right word to describe England's attitude".
The 26-year-old also rubbished Australia's frontline spinner Nathan Lyon's threat of going after the English skipper, who has 13 hundreds and 32 half-centuries from 60 Test matches. "But you want that competitive element to it, and those little in-house rivalries".
"It should be a great series and they've got some great players within their squads and some good characters which will make for a great Test". "They've got a lot of quality in their attack but we've got a lot of quality in our team as well".
"It doesn't really matter what happens in these two weeks, you want to make sure you get the confidence going into it but mentally you need to make sure you're ready for those five games".
"If we get the opportunity to do that, that's definitely the mentality of the batting side and that's something we have to have throughout the five Test matches".
England will be without Jimmy Anderson for what will be their third warm-up match for the Ashes series, which starts on November 23, after Root revealed the bowler was recovering from a stomach bug.
"But ultimately getting runs and good habits here and getting in good habits is the way we have to approach it".
It sounds a daunting task for England, who can be sure at least they have Moeen fully fit again with bat and ball. You have to focus on your game and the situation the team is in.
