Unparalleled online play for StarCraft II will be available through a new version of Battle.net, Blizzard Entertainment's world-renowned gaming service.
You can sign up for Battle.net via your Facebook account or a more traditional email/password setup. Players will be able to tailor the experience, choosing their own mission path and selecting technology and research upgrades to suit their playing style throughout the 29-mission campaign.
Starting today, players can pick up the award-winning Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty for the low, low price of free.
All the commanders in co-op are free, but until level 5. Upon entering free-to-play, the original Wings of Liberty single-player campaign has become available to all players, along with access to the competitive scene.
Finally, if you already own Wings of Liberty, you can get a free digital copy of the expansion pack Heart of the Swarm - though have only until December 8 to obtain that.
In addition to the Wings of Liberty campaign, players can permanently unlock the game's ranked multiplayer ladder, which includes all of the multiplayer units from Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm, and Legacy of the Void.
If you wil 10 First Wins of the Day in Unranked or Versus AI, you'll unlock ranked multiplayer. So yep, despite going free-to-play, Starcraft II won't feature any extra currencies or microtransactions. That said, you can use Kerrigan, Raynor and Artanis for free indefinitely with no level cap. You can purchase all of the other campaigns, including the Nova Covert Ops missions, for $15 each. In order to qualify, you'll need to have purchased Wings of Liberty prior to October 31, 2017. We will also continue to offer premium upgrades like announcer packs, special skins, and new Co-op Commanders to enhance your StarCraft II experience in a number of different ways. Will you jump in now that the base game is free?
