Upcoming Hyderabad Metro Rail is not just for the young and the agile, with the facilities being created going to aid the old and the differently-abled too. "We are awaiting the final itinerary of the Prime Minister", a top official of the HMRL said.

He said disabled commuters will have a ramp right at the road level so as to make wheelchairs accessible to lifts. For easy manoeuvrability and accommodation of wheelchairs, spacious lifts are being provided with hand rails inside. With the train floor and platform gap not much, wheelchair bound passengers will not encounter any problem getting into the train.
Lift operating buttons will have information in Braille script at all levels of the station, a tactile strip is being provided from the street level till the edge of the platform to guide the visually impaired in navigating their way. The metro coaches have facilities to accommodate wheelchairs with special grab-holds designed for the goal, Reddy said.
Also, all the stations will have specially assembled toilets that will assist the physically challenged with grab bars and supports.
To cater those with partial visual impairment, cognitive disabilities and even the illiterate, special signages with images in high contrast levels will be installed to enable easy access at different areas in all stations and trains.
"Announcements would be made in three languages of English, Telugu and Urdu inside the metro rail during transit, about the arrival station, on which side of the platform the door will open and safety aspects", added Reddy.
