Senator Buruji Kashamu (PDP Ogun East), has accused Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi of manipulating party structure and activities in favour of his 2019 presidential ambition.
"All other aspirants, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, Senator Biodun Olujimi, Ambassador Dare Bejide, Bisi Omoyeni and myself are all working together to ensure that there is no imposition of any candidate in PDP in this state".
He said that while the party's presidential ticket was zoned to the North, the position of chairman was zone to the South, without specific reference to States or geopolitical region.
According to him, Bode George has been a friend of the South-South zone, especially when things were tough for the zone.
"Our aspirants, PDP chairmanship aspirants, have agreed to work together, so that whosoever emerges as the chairman of the party will be supported by all of us".
Fayose further disclosed that the governors were looking forward to the party's victory in the November 18 gubernatorial election in Anambra State, noting that the party expected nothing less than a credible, free and fair election.
The group, in a release yesterday, said it is campaigning for Secondus because "he has a reputation that continues to soar above his peers in the build up to the National Chairmanship office of the nation's most popular and major opposition party".
The Aspirant debunked the speculations making the round that the meeeting was deadlocked, said that it was a family meeting conducted under a peaceful atmosphere under the Chairmanship of the Ekiti State Governor, Chief Ayodele Fayose, the Chairman of the Forum.
"We are using this opportunity to ask that the election must be credible, not only credible but seen to be credible".
"As a democrat to the core, Secondus emphasizes liberal disposition and says to whoever cares to listen, putting it clearly on records, that since the launching of his chairmanship ambition, he has been reaching out to delegates across the 36 states, seeking votes and presenting his agenda for revival of the party ahead of 2019".
Also at the event, the PDP National Vice Chairman (South-West), Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, urged party leaders and members to support the South-West to produce the next PDP National Chairman.
Others included Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Ayo Fayose (Ekiti), Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo (Gombe), Darius Ishaku, (Taraba), the host, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the deputy governor of Ebonyi State, Eric Kelechi Igwe.
All the chairmanship aspirants are to sign a peace accord today at the national secretariat in Abuja.
