The three properties belonging to Dawood Ibrahim which will be auctioned on are - Ronak Afroz Restaurant, Damarwala Building and Shabnam Guest House. Two properties were auctioned for INR 3.5 Crore and Raunaq Afroz for INR 4.52 Crore.
The Mumbai-based Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust (SBUT), an organisation of the influential Dawoodi Bohra community, has emerged as the highest bidder at the auction that was held at a room in the Indian Merchants' Chamber in Churchgate area amid tight security arrangements.
Sources said that SBUT, which is overseeing the ambitious Bhendi Bazaar makeover project, was keen on including Ibrahim's property into its development plan. These buildings are in dilapidated condition and unfit for living.
After the gangster fled India, his properties were seized under SAFEMA.
The Shabnam Guest house is a two storey building on Yakub Street, Bhendi Bazar.
Dawood Ibrahim is now in Pakistan. Ibrahim's close aide Kaskar, after being released from jail, was staying in this building and conducting operations of D Gang.
The reserve price for the three properties are Rs 1.21 crore, Rs 1.55 crore and Rs 1.18 crore respectively.
Swami Chakrapani of Hindu Mahasabha who wanted to buy Hotel Rounak Afroz could not participate in the auction as the demand draft, issued by his association as the earnest money to participate in the auction, couldn't be honoured in stipulated time.
Hence, the property is being auctioned again.
The Reserve price now kept for the property is Rs 1 crore 18 lakh 63 thousand.
