During the third quarter, Berkshire Hathaway announced plans to exercise its Bank of America warrants once the dividend rate increase took effect. Berkshire boosted its holding in Apple by about 4 million shares. For most companies, there seems to be no greater endorsement in all whale-watching activities than to have a new stake held by Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway. Bank of America is Berkshire Hathaway's fifth largest equity holding.

Berkshire cut its IBM stake 32 percent in the third quarter to about 37 million shares worth $5.37 billion from 54.1 million shares worth $8.32 billion, according to a Tuesday regulatory filing detailing its US -listed stock holdings.
Charter Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: CHTR) was a stake that was lowered to 8.49 million shares at the end of the third quarter from 9.44 million at the end of the second quarter.
