The CEO of Tesla, Musk calls this project "the first of several solar+battery Tesla projects" which soon are going live in Puerto Rico, an unincorporated territory of the US situated in the northeast Caribbean Sea.
A children's hospital in Puerto Rico received power and electricity, Tuesday, all thanks to Tesla. The facility has 35 permanent residents with chronic conditions while offering services to about 3,000 young patients. "Teams are now talking; exploring opportunities".
Manuel Laboy, Puerto Rico's Secretary of Economic Development and Commerce, discusses the road ahead for the hurricane-ravaged US territory and just how much Congress's recently-passed relief bill will help with its recovery.
After two hurricanes struck Puerto Rico in September, leaving its power grid destroyed, the Tesla founder offered to help. "Congrats to the Tesla team for working 24/7 to make this happen as fast as possible". The American automaker and energy storage company have previously installed power grid systems on Ta'u in American Samoa, Kauai in Hawaii but not large as Puerto Rico.
Earlier this month, Musk pledged to meet with the governor of Puerto Rico to work on ways to rebuild the island's electrical grid with renewable energy. Elon Musk has used Tesla's solar panels and battery storage to turn the power back on San Juan's Children's Hospital - and he did it free of charge.
Meanwhile the tiny Trump-linked energy contractor that won a $300-million no-bid contract to rebuild the grid, Whitefish Energy, is also under fire.
Tesla has announced that the company was able to get the hospital's electricity supply working again in less than three week's from the talks regarding help in rebuilding the U.S. territory's infrastructure officially began. Andy Techmanski, Whitefish CEO, and the secretary know each other, according to the Washington Post.
