Wilcox said Girl Scouts is positioned for continued growth.
There are 12,000 Boy Scouts in Hawaii, and Thomas Wang leads 45 in his Cub Scout pack in Kaimuki.
Girls will be able to join Cub Scout dens in 2018 and start working their way toward an Eagle Scout ranking come 2019.
"There's always been a little bit of 'Is there anything for younger girls, ' and I think that kind of suggestion coming from families has kind of driven this conversation", said Ron Gardner, scout executive for the New Birth of Freedom Council with the Boy Scouts of America.
The Boy Scouts of America will be fully inclusive for girls for the first time in its almost 100-year history, its leaders announced Wednesday, the latest move to adapt the organization's rules in an era of declining membership.
Tom Smotherman with the Sioux Council Boy Scouts says the national organization is seeing that trend across the country. "We've had females involved in our co-ed, ages 14 through the age of 20, career development programs called "Exploring" since its inception in the 1950s". "Our program is written for girls, by girls", said Communications and Marketing Manager for the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay, Gina Dzielak.
"Girls Scouts have to get 80-plus hours of community service", Jenco said.
And the title of Cub Scout and Eagle Scout that was reserved for boys, is about to change.
As for the Girl Scouts, they will continue doing what they're doing, she said.
Smotherman says boys and girls will learn the same programming but in separate groups.
Eberspeaker said, "Every girl who is a Girl Scout has the opportunity to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award. and it is a very prestigious award". Over the years, the programming has also been reimagined to fit scouts' needs.
"With more scouts, boys and girls, we're going to be looking for more parent volunteers to help as leaders", he said.
"No, sir", she said.
According to statistics, in the United States, 90 percent of female astronauts, 80 percent of female tech leaders, 76 percent of current senators and 50 percent of female business owners are former Girl Scouts.
Girls have been participating in the high school level of the organization since 1971. She added that girls do better in a single-gender environment such as Girl Scouts than in co-ed environments.
Wilcox said this is their membership season which makes it easier for girls to join during this time.
