Officials said temperatures soared inside the Rehabilitation Centre at Hollywood Hills, 20 miles north of Miami, after enduring a "prolonged power failure" to the transformer that powered the air conditioning units.
Temperatures reached into the 90s Tuesday and Wednesday in Hollywood.
"We make this request in recognition of the numerous and various parties that will be included in such an investigation", the letter said, referring to the nursing home itself, as well some local government agencies that had oversight roles, such as Hollywood's police and fire departments.

He added that the patients who have been admitted to the hospital are mostly being treated for "respiratory distress, dehydration and heat-related issues". Randy Katz, the medical director of Memorial Regional's emergency department, said at a news conference.

Family members have begun speaking out after receiving news that their loved ones died in the wake of a power outage at a Hollywood nursing home.
The nursing home was aware on Sunday that its air conditioning "ceased to operate effectively" and placed portable air coolers and fans throughout the facility, according to the moratorium, which was signed by Justin Senior, secretary for the health-care administration. In addition, there are more than 3,100 assisted living facilities with over 99,000 beds.
