The remnants of Tropical Storm Harvey are over the Gulf of Mexico this morning after passing over the Yucatan Peninsula earlier in the week.
In an update, approximately one hour ago, the Cayman Islands Weather Service said that an increase in cloudiness and showers are expected across the Cayman area tonight as a tropical wave moves west across the northwest Caribbean.
Although Tropical Storm Harvey has been downgraded to a disorganized system, weather experts are warning not to let your guard down just yet.
The U.S. Gulf of Mexico is home to about 17% of the nation's crude output and 5% of dry natural gas output, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Thunderstorms, heavy rain and gusty winds together with high surf are expected along coastal areas of southern Texas as the weekend nears.
The remnants of Tropical Storm Harvey could redevelop into a tropical storm later this week as the storm approaches the Texas coast and depending on what happens after that, Harvey could be a rainmaker this weekend in Central Texas.
"Although some indicate a minimal impact, there are a few models we are tracking that show a stronger storm that could make landfall at South Padre Island", City Manager Susan Guthrie said in a statement.
We will keep a close eye on how 92L evolves as it moves closer to the coast since it still has the potential to evolve into a tropical system later this week.
If Harvey becomes a hurricane, it will make landfall in the Texas.
It has only a 30 percent chance of strengthening into a tropical depression. Through the end of the week anywhere from two to four inches of rain could fall in areas of Lee and Collier counties, with higher totals in the east coast metros and lesser amounts north of the Caloosahatchee River.
Another tropical wave, Invest 92L, that the National Hurricane Center is watching is not expected to impact South Mississippi's weather.
