The long-running comedy about an IN family will pass the 200-episode mark IN the upcoming season.
It has been a reliable ratings performer throughout its run, but nine years in it's also a fairly expensive show.
The single-camera comedy stars Patricia Heaton (Frankie Heck), Neil Flynn (Mike Heck), Charlie McDermott (Axl Heck), Eden Sher (Sue Heck) and Atticus Shaffer (Brick Heck) as the Heck family, a middle-class family living in the Midwest. In its own way, the show has been recognized even though it's not a ratings magnet.
"It's rare for a series to have this type of longevity", ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a statement. "I'm looking forward to the fitting and happy ending the producers will give the Hecks and our viewers".

The network said Wednesday that the show, starring Patricia Heaton and Neil Flynn as Frankie and Mike Heck, harried parents of three in Orson, Indiana, would begin its ninth and final season on October 3. The veteran comedy series, produced by Warner Bros. "We love our fans and we're bringing you the most epic final season ever!"
Heaton and Flynn form a hilarious team as the parents, and the show tells family stories with edgy comedy yet heartfelt wisdom.
"We feel the reception toward our show is positive and kind", Heisler said.
The Middle returns for its ninth and final season on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
