Newbee have shown the save versatility in the draft phase as Team Liquid. The 2017 International Dota 2 Championships full prize pool exceeded $24 million, all but $1.6 million of which was crowdfunded via in-game purchases within Dota 2. Liquid won the championship after a 3-0 victory over Newbee, the champion of the upper bracket who hadn't lost a single series the whole tournament.
Liquid rode their lower bracket momentum into game one, which resulted in an early rout that went unchallenged for half an hour as the European Union team ran over Newbee, in large part thanks to roaming offlane play of Ivan Borislavov "MinD_ContRoL" Ivanov as Nature's Prophet.
The victor of the Lower Bracket Finals will face Newbee. The match was an explosive back-and-forth between the two Chinese teams, during which Newbee showed absolutely spectacular teamfights and took the spot. Essentially, if Liquid could take down LFY, the slayer of the group stage and upper bracket, it seemed they would have a chance against Newbee.
In game three, Newbee went with a very push-heavy lineup that nearly overtook Liquid, but a few key teamfights tipped the scales toward Team Liquid until a GG called. Before this, there has never been a 3-0 grand final.
They kept their lead through the mid game, making sure that Amer "Miracle-" Al-Barkawi's Terrorblade was miles ahead of Du "Monet" Peng's Morphling.
Coming up through the loser's bracket, are both the first team to have ever swept the grand finals at TI, and also the first to win after dropping in the first round of the winner's bracket.
The dominating snowball style of Team Liquid shone in each game of the Grand Finals. Liquid came out swinging in game one, taking all of Newbee's outer towers before 20 minutes and forcing a GG shortly after. This approach carried over into all three games as Liquid worked to control all factors of the game towards the final objective: taking down the Ancient.
In today's first match I like Team Liquid. Liquid secured a foothold, and despite the reviving Aegis expiring literally moments prior to a death, the Western team continued to slowly siege the Newbee base, inching ever-closer to an historic win.
