Shivakumar is hosting 44 Congress MLAs from Gujarat who have taken shelter in the state to avoid the BJP's alleged ploy to allure them and break the Congress's house to jeopardise the chances of Ahmed Patel, the lieutenant of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, to win the upcoming Rajya Sabha election.
Shivakumar was the "caretaker" of Gujarat Congress MLAs at the resort near Bidadi, in the outskirts of Bengaluru.
The searches are being conducted by the Karnataka Investigation Wing of the Income tax department. "Only one particular Karnataka minister was searched", he told MPs in the Rajya Sabha.
He also confirmed that no I-T searches were conducted at the Eagleton Golf resort. In total, about 80 officials are said to be raiding 39 locations around the city. On July 27, Karnataka Law Minister TB Jayachandra, stated in a Cabinet meeting, that "the Eagleton resort should either pay the penalty or submit the land to the government".
During the raids, Rs 5 crore was recovered from the Delhi residence of Minister DK Shivakumar, IT officials stated.
The Rajya Sabha was also rocked by opposition protests over an Election Commission notification that provides the MLAs the "None of the Above" (NOTA) option in the voting for the Rajya Sabha elections in Gujarat on August 8.
The Congress flew out its legislators alleging that they were being intimidated and also being offered Rs. 15 crore each to support the BJP in the Rajya Sabha elections.
Another leader P.L. Punia said it only shows what kind of politics the BJP is doing.
