Paulinho failed to shine in his most recent spell in Europe during two years at Tottenham Hotspur before moving to Guangzhou in 2015.
Paulinho is set to fly to Barcelona on Sunday from Chinese Super League leaders Guangzhou Evergrande after they activated the former Tottenham midfielder's €40 million buyout clause, according to multiple reports in China.
During his time in the Premier League, Brazilian midfielder Paulinho struggled to really make an impact in England, but after a successful stint in the Chinese Super League, the 29-year-old has just completed one of the shock deals of the summer.
The Brazilian has not hidden his interest in playing for Barcelona and revealed that he was hoping to get a clearance on a deal before the end of the week.
"It is a unique opportunity for me to be able to play for Barcelona, the best team in the world and surrounded by the best players". It has also been reported that Barcelona have already agreed terms with the player for a move to the Camp Nou.
Guangzhou will profit most from the sale of Paulinho, having originally bought the Brazil worldwide from Spurs for £10m, while six of Paulinho's former clubs are also set to benefit from the 29-year-old's move.
Meanwhile, Philippe Coutinho has handed in a transfer request at Liverpool despite the club rejecting a £90 million offer form Barcelona for him.
"I don't have any proof of anything", Valverde said.
"If they don't sell him, then I am not involved any more".
"I have no knowledge of what players could come or of what goes on at other teams".
"There had been a lot of talk and you could sense there was something as some players had commented something to me the week before, but I didn't know for sure. That's what I'm always doing", he added.
