Kerala's Malappuram district has created a much bigger buzz after a private educational institute namely Al Farooque English medium school in Pandikkad, introduced two different uniforms for students in terms of their intelligence quotient and academic skills.
According to the freaky uniform code introduced in June, academically sharp students will wear white shirts and tops while the second category of average and under-performing students will wear red check shirts and tops.
The Childline authorities had conducted a survey among the students for their feedbacks on the new system following the complaint received in June. Thrice, a four-member group led by Rashid visited the school having 800 students.
While parents protested that the school did not think about mental issues that were caused among students due to the uniforms, they did not receive a concrete reply.
The parents then approached Childline, a body working under the state's social welfare ministry, to complain that the school had overlooked the mental agony of the students. The survey revealed that the students feel discriminated owing to the introduction of the new system. "We demanded appropriate action from the school".
"We were told the average students will yearn for white and work hard but we find it too discriminatory", said the mother of a student quoted by HT.
"We met school authorities and conveyed the dissent of the students". As a result, the school chairman announced that the ruling would be revoked and action would be taken against the school principal. "Students were selected on the basis of their academic and cocurricular activities and discipline".
Earlier in June, the design of girls" school uniform in a Kerala had sparked controversy after a photographer called it "vulgar'. Following which reports said that the uniform was completely changed.
