Newly-appointed Manchester United captain Michael Carrick has praised new teammate Nemanja Matic and believes he'll have a big part to play at Old Trafford.
Kurt Zouma, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Kasey Palmer, Izzy Brown and Tammy Abraham are among the Blues' youngsters who will play elsewhere in the Premier League this season, while Marco van Ginkel and Mario Pasalic have been temporarily sent elsewhere in Europe.
Will Chelsea retain the Premier League trophy?
Ahead of Chelsea's first match of the new Premier League season against Burnley on Saturday, Blues boss Antonio Conte has been speaking to Sky Sports Premier League about the club's latest signing Alvaro Morata. Antonio is not only asking me to make the usual moves of a striker.
"But he [Antonio Conte] spoke about him in such a way about his incredible importance to the job they did previous year, Matic and N'Golo Kante in front of that back three".
"But sometimes you must accept this insane transfer market, and sometimes you must accept different decisions". Maybe he was behind the scenes, but it did not seem he was publicly. Very experienced. They know how to play these games.
'Matic knows very well what I think about him, ' Conte told Sky Sports. "The idea that he has improved his contract, but not extended, is unusual".
"So there have been a number of things simmering at Chelsea, and I have to say that Chelsea is the type of club that brings that type of tension". So what you sometimes see is that when the manager is in a strong position, they are sometimes brutal with the club.
"I repeat: my only task is to focus on the pitch, what happens on the pitch, during the training session to work with my players".
Carrick was also impressed by the experience that Matic has in his career and feels that he'll be a key figure in the squad.
"This season, in relation to the Champions League, it is not hard to motivate them against the top teams, I don't need to work at that level, so the motivation is more than enough".
